Amrita Rao’s birthday is on the 7th of June. She was born in 1981 in Mumbai. Amrita Rao was born in a conservative Saraswat Brahmin family. Her father is Deepak Rao who runs an advertising agency. Amrita Rao’s mother tongue is Konkani.

Amrita Rao studied at C.G. High School and later graduated with a degree in Psychology from Sophia College. Amrita Rao did not want to purse any career with Bollywood as she wanted to graduate in psychology, which she eventually did.

Besides working in ads and films, Amrita has to her credit the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Amrita Rao is also the muse of the bare-footed artist M.F.Hussain.

Amrita Rao started her career in showbiz industry as a model and then graduated to acting in films. Amrita Rao’s first assignment was for the “Fairever face cream”. Since then Amrita Rao has appeared in more than thirty five advertisements. Amrita Rao was noticed by the film director Raj Kanwar in Cadbury’s Perk advertisement and signed her for his movie “Ab Ke Baras”. “Ab Ke Baras” did not do well at the Box Office but she was admired and appreciated for her performance. Her second film “Ishk Vishk “was a super hit.

Amrita Rao won the Filmfare Best Debutant award for her performance in the movie “Ishk Vishk”. Since then Amrita Rao never looked back and Amrita was offered variety of roles in the coming films. Her other hit movies are “Masti”, “Main Hoon Na”& “Vivah”. After that Amrita did a number of films but most of them could not make any impact at the Box Office.

Amrita Rao also has a Telegu movie to her credit which turned out a huge box office hit. Amrita Rao is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Konkani. Amrita Rao is passionate about reading short stories.

Amrita Rao has co-starred with Shahid Kapur, Zayed Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Akshay Khanna, and Mahesh Babu. A winner of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke.
