The funeral for British singer, Amy Winehouse, was held in London, England today, as the singer was found dead on Saturday, July 23, 2011, of a suspected drug overdose. Dozens of Winehouse's family and friends, came out to pay their respects and bid her farewell.
Crowds gather outside the funeral
Winehouse's ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who publicly admitted he introduced the once healthy singer to heroin and crack-cocaine, marking a massive downward spiral in her life and career, was barred from the funeral by her family and denied permission to leave prison to attend the funeral.
Amy Winehouse's dad Mitch Winehouse
No official cause of death has been determined at this time, due to the autopsy being branded "inconclusive." Standard toxicology tests are underway, with the results expected in several weeks. Winehouse leaves behind an estate worth millions and numerous unreleased songs.
Amy Winehouse's family and friends
Her story should serve as a sobering reminder to many of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, as Winehouse had so much to live for, but due to not embracing the importance of remaining sober, lost her life. This really is a tragic waste of life, because as accomplished as she was in her chosen profession, there was still so much more she could have done over time, with the talents God gave her. Drug and alcohol abuse brought it to a halt.

It is full time the entertainment industry started doing more to keep artists drug free. It is ridiculous the number of entertainers that have overdosed. The National Basketball Association in America has taken a proactive role in educating athletes on the dangers of fame and wealth. It's time the music, film and television industries in Britain and America do the same.

Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was an English singer-songwriter known for her powerful contralto vocalsand her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B, soul and jazz.
Winehouse's 2003 debut album, Frank, was critically successful in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her 2006 follow-up album, Back to Black, led to six Grammy Award nominations and five wins, tying the then record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made Winehouse the first British female to win five Grammys including three of the "Big Four": Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. On 14 February 2007, she won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist; she had also been nominated for Best British Album. The album was the third seller of the 2000s in the United Kingdom

Winehouse was born in the Southgate area of north London to a Jewish family who were influential toward her interest in jazz. Winehouse was the younger of two children (older brother Alex) of Mitchell Winehouse, a taxi driver, and Janis Winehouse (née Seaton), a pharmacist Mitchell often sang Frank Sinatra songs to young Amy, who also took to a constant habit of singing to the point that teachers found it difficult keeping her quiet in class
When Winehouse was nine years old, her grandmother, Cynthia, suggested she attend the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School for further training. At age ten, Winehouse founded a short-lived rap group called Sweet 'n' Sour with childhood friend Juliette Ashby. She stayed at the Earnshaw school for four years before seeking full time training at Sylvia Young Theatre School, but was allegedly expelled at 14 for "not applying herself" and for piercing her nose With other children from the Sylvia Young School, she appeared in an episode of The Fast Show in 1997 She later attended the BRIT School in Selhurst, Croydonand attended Southgate School and Ashmole School

I don't usually (ever) take to my blog to write about things to do with celebrities (the Royal Wedding aside) because a lot of the time they're getting enough exposure and this blog isn't really about celebs now, is it?
However I make an exception when someone like Amy Winehouse dies so suddenly. No official statement has been released around why she died so let's not speculate or assume right now. All I know is that around 3.54pm today Emergency Services arrived at her home in Camden where Amy Winehouse was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was clearly troubled and addiction in all it's forms is a horrible life for anyone, but especially a young, talented and creative woman. I didn't like her music at first, but then I heard "Back to Black" and those lyrics really rang true for me at a point in my life in 2007.
So let's remember something in all this hot mess: a young woman, 2 years older than myself, has died today and that's a real loss to the World in my opinion. So sad for her family.

Amy Winehouse is only 5'2", but with her swoosh of black eyeliner and towering beehive – which she calls her "secret weapon"– she's larger than life. But it'll take more than a killer 'do to defeat this talented songbird's demons.
Back to Black – a brutally honest retelling of her breakup with Blake Fielder-Civil – has sold more than 3.3 million copies. But in 2007, the brilliant Brit was hospitalized for a drug overdose, checked into – and out of – rehab, and got busted for drug possession. She reunited with and married Fielder-Civil, only to have him hauled off to jail (they have since divorced and once again reunited).
In January 2008, Winehouse entered rehab weeks before winning five Grammys, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

amy winehouse dead
Well Amy Winehouse is dead. Assumed she did the ol' O Dizzle. As one of Chappelles alter egos said "Cocaine is a hell of a drug." Maybe it was Rick James... Well I'm not going to look it up for this article because I am completely indifferent. Amy Winehouse is no one to me. I don't care if famous people die, I blog about it to get hits. So... thanks.
At any rate, watch an episode of intervention where someone who succumbs to drugs or alcohol and wasn't a freaking rich never-worked-a-real-job "musician" / socialite / tabloid fodder person, loses everything, goes to rehab and then relapses and dies and tell me how you feel. Now that's sad. Rich people think they deserve to feel awesome on command, good way to do that... drugs. Problem is drugs kill you. So entitlement + money + everyone feeding your ego + moron = dead from over dose. Sorry to her family, and friends (the ones that didn't help her score) they have to suffer because of her decisions and that is also sad.
I am being critical of someone I really no nothing about, but our societies obsession with famous people and what they do and it being more important than what non-famous people do disgusts me. The fact is that teachers, doctors, mothers, soldiers and tons of other more important and significant people have terrible things happen to them but when a celebrity dies people line up around their house to morn and shower condolences. I don't understand it and I think its undeserved.
Feel free to comment with dissenting opinions.
UPDATE: Looks like they were not able to determine her cause of death. Might have jumped the gun on her being OD, but probably not. We will just have to wait and see.

London police confirmed a 27 year old female was pronounced dead at her Camden Square home. The cause of death is not apparent at present time.
Nessuna sviolinata post-mortem, nessuna ipocrisia, nessun moralismo.

Back to Black
He left no time to regret
Kept his dick wet
With his same old safe bet
Me and my head high and my tears dry
Get on without my guy
You went back to what you knew
So far removed from all that we went through
And I tread a troubled track
My odds are stacked
I’ll go back to black
So far removed from all that we went through
And I tread a troubled track
My odds are stacked
I’ll go back to black
We only said good-bye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
I go back to us
I love you much
It’s not enough
You love blow and I love puff
It’s not enough
You love blow and I love puff
And life is like a pipe
And I’m a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside
And I’m a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to
Black, black, black, black, black, black, black,
I go back to
I go back to
I go back to
I go back to
We only said good-bye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to...

E invece no, cazzo.
